SSB Preparation II SSB Interview is Personality Based Selection System

SSB Interview conducted by Service Selection Boards (SSB) is Personality based selection system unlike the Job Interview which is Skills or Skill Set based Selection System. Past behavior is indicative of future conduct; more consistent has been a past behavior, more likely it is to be repeated in the future.

Formulation of OLQs.

After considerable thoughts, an exhaustive list of ‘Personality Based’ qualities required in a Defence Services Officer was prepared, which came to be known as Officer-Like Qualities (OLQs). Further, a selection system was evolved over the years to assess these qualities by three independent assessors working in cohesion & not isolation. These assessors namely: Psychologist, Group Testing Officer & Interviewing Officer assess these qualities by means of conduct of various kinds of tests, tasks and Interview.

In Job based Interview, the selector or the Interviewer knows exactly what he is looking for. Therefore, there is JD or Job Description which highlights the skills required and selector role is to assess and evaluate the candidate in terms of list of pre-set qualifications or skills. Aim is to evaluate, whether the candidate actually fits the description and select and hire the candidate which has the highest attributes or best match the job profile.

SSB Interview – Selection Criteria.

  • Presence of these 15 different OLQs to certain degree along with the ‘Trainability Quotient’ and ‘Socio-Economic Card’ of Candidate is the criteria for selection of candidates in a SSB Interview.
  • Adequacy in OLQs to certain degree is the selection criteria and not ability to do well in Psychology, Interview or GTO in standalone modes.
  • Past behavior is indicative of future conduct; more consistent has been a past behavior, more likely it is to be repeated in the future.
    Conclusion.

To conclude, SSB Interview is Personality based Selection System and the desired personality for becoming a defence forces officer is governed by 15 different qualities called the OLQ’s. These qualities are assessed through various tests / tasks and interviews conducted during the SSB process. Candidates are expected to demonstrate these qualities especially the Deep-Rooted Qualities in their responses, actions, and overall demeanour throughout the selection process.

Wishing You Success.

God Bless and God Speed.
